興紬商店(本場大島紬)
大島紬のデザインを考え職人に発注する織元。大島紬は奄美大島龍郷町発祥とされる絹の手織物で1300年ほどの歴史を持つ。製作は、30を超える工程を島内にいる職人の手作業により分業で行っている。伝統柄は、島の草花や生活用具などをモチーフにしている。

Oki Tsumugi / Authentic Oshima Tsumugi
A weaver who deeply considers the design of Oshima Tsumugi when placing orders with craftsmen. Oshima Tsumugi is handwoven silk fabric which originated in Tatsugo in the island of Amami and dates back 1300 years. The production process involves over 30 steps divided among craftsmen working by hand on the island. Traditional patterns use motifs such as island flowers and goods used in daily life.

大島紬は1300年の歴史がありまして、絹の手織物なんですけれども何人もの職人さんの技が活きています。
30数工程ございまして、それぞれの職人さんは分業でやっておりますので大島紬っていうのは。
スペシャリストが集まりましてひとつの物を作り上げていく作業が入ります。
奄美の中でやっておりますので、奄美の自然がなければ生まれなかったであろうという絹の手織りです。
こちら龍郷町は大島紬発祥の地と言われてまして、基本的に龍郷柄と秋名バラという２つの伝統的な柄がございまして、それこそ１００年以上受け継がれている古典柄といいますか、伝統の柄がございまして、根強いファンがたくさんいらっしゃいます。
私たちは伝統は守って伝えていくものだと思っていますので、伝統＋工夫。
それに工夫をして受け継ぎ守り続けていきたいといつも思っているところですね。
本物っていうものはいつの時代でも愛されて欲しいですし、愛されるであろうっていう信念のもとにずっと製作していますので手抜きをしない物作りを心がけています。

Oshima Tsumugi has a history going back 1,300 years.
It is handwoven silk in which the skills of countless craftsmen live and breathe.
It involves over 30 steps,
With many craftsmen combining their respective specializations. Thus, specialists come together to produce a single item—this is the work that goes into Oshima Tsumugi.
It is made in Amami.
Without the nature of Amami, this handwoven silk could never be. The town of Tatsugo, where we are, is said to be the birthplace of Oshima Tsumugi.
Basically, there are two traditional patterns: Tatsugo-gara and Akina-bara.
These classic, traditional patterns have been handed down for over 100 years
And have created scores of enduring fans.
We feel it is our duty to protect and pass on tradition. Our motto is “tradition + invention”.
We always strive to receive and protect tradition while adding invention to it.
The real thing is loved and desired in any age. We have always crafted our items with the belief that they will be loved and so strive for total diligence in production.
